2010-2011)
Chris Roberts, Chair, Department of Film/Video/Theatre
Roger Guenveur Smith, Artist-in-Residence, Actor/Writer
G.T. Keplinger, Assistant Professor, Department of Film/Video/Theatre
A disclaimer – there were 3 cameras clicking away at once, so some of us are looking in different directions for a reason. Also, I had just re-watched The Family Man, with Nicolas Cage, and was doing my best imitation of him in the alternate reality scene where he tries on a suit. Really, it’s true . . .

Actor Roger Guenveur Smith was Stevenson University’s Department of Film/Video/Theatre’s first invitee to what we hope will be an ongoing Artist-in-Residence series.
During the day, Roger led improv workshops with our students. Pictured here, from L to R, are Roger Guenveur Smith, Theatre Major Marty Hoegg – Class of 2010 – and Film/Video/Theatre Department Chair Chris Roberts.
See the post previous to this one for all of the info on the day and on the evening’s screening of Do the Right Thing.

On Friday, April 30, 2010, Stevenson University’s Department of Film/Video/Theatre is proud to host actor Roger Guenveur Smith as its first invitee to what we hope will be an ongoing Artist-in-Residence series. During the day, Roger will lead improv workshops with our students. That evening, at 6pm, there will be a reception in the Inscape Theatre lobby, followed by a screening, at 7pm, of Spike Lee’s 1989 masterpiece Do the Right Thing, in which Roger plays Smiley, the stuttering Malcolm X fan (and, in many ways, the voice of conscience for the entire film). Afterwards, Roger will be present for a Q&A session with the audience.
Please note, the reception and screening are open and free to the general public.
Please join us for what will surely be an exciting event!

Come to the Senior Film & Video Showcase on Thursday, May 13, and Friday, May 14, at 6pm each evening, in the Inscape Theatre on the Greenspring Campus.
Our Seniors will be showing their final film and video projects, some documentary, some fiction.
It should be a great two nights of films, and we hope to see you at one of the two showcases. The Thursday program will feature the work of Chris Reed’s FIVTH450 section, while the Friday program will feature the work of G.T. Keplinger’s FIVTH450 section.

Look at this wonderful product placement for both Apple and the Panasonic P2 camera series!
Here, Junior video major Elyssa Lambert takes her turn in front of the camera in our in-class practice today for Junior video major Britney Empty’s upcoming narrative film shoot.
After completing their documentary projects, VID325 (Video Production) students now move on to their narrative (fiction) films. These are based on scripts that they wrote in the first half of the semester, as they were filming and editing their documentaries.
With our new fleet of Panasonic HVX200 HD cameras, we hope to allow as many students as possible to shoot in the latest high definition video formats.

That’s right! You heard it here first, folks. The announcement of this very important discovery comes on the eve of our Easter Break. Stay tuned for more details on the sure-to-be-granted Nobel Prize in Chemistry (the first ever given to a non-scientist). As the French would say, “poisson d’avril!”
