And now the students will move on to the second film, which is a “montage” project, inspired by the Soviet Montage work of directors like Lev Kuleshov and Sergei Eisenstein, in the 1920s.
These first movies were all single-shot affairs, modeled after the work of the Lumière Brothers, in France, and Thomas Edison, in the United States, in the mid to late 1890s.
Keep in mind, as you watch these (you can access all 17 films by clicking on the link, above – “Burrier_Brett_Mise-en-scène” - which will take you to my Flickr site), that this was the first time, for all of the students, that they loaded and exposed 16mm motion picture film.
Nice job!
Enjoy!
